White Crew R-34 Summary

The White Replacement Crew arrived at North Pickenham in July. After some in-house training they were assigned to the 856th BS, short a navigator. We don't know who they replaced nor what crew designation number was given to them.
|
|
White flew only one mission for the 492nd on 18 Jul 44. It was a tactical mission to provide support to the ground troops near Troarns, France. Their ship was badly damaged by flak. They made it back to Allied territory and landed on Thorny Island. White and four others were wounded during the ordeal.
|
|
Most of this crew was reassigned to Abernethy Crew R-14. When Lt White recovered he was transferred to the 801st/492nd BG, the same place Abernethy went. He got a new crew which included three of his former crewmen.
